It was very affordable (sub $20), came in lots of colours (including this lilac colour that I love!), and is super comfortable too. The vertical mouse I used previously, a Ugreen one, had a narrower grip that was less than ideal.
I didn’t think I’d ever get to the point of asking for this product specifically, but are there any recommendations for 3.5mm TRS male to male cables, suitable for headphones, available for purchase from mainland US, and preferably 10ft?
This might be a lost cause, but I’m looking for small & medium (so max 1A and max 2.4A power draw) USB fans without a battery (corded power only) which will last more than 1 to 2 seasons even at a 90% duty cycle. USB fans are a common enough item that unusually good ones may exist, but it’s really hard to find any amid the tsunami of cheap trash.
If anyone has any advice for BIFL , wide toed winter boots that are also waterproof , available to be shipped to canada, dont use goretex, AND have good traction on ice or steel cleats? please let me know.
Moved from the beach to the mountains and need to prep for the upcoming winter. Gonna be hitting the thrift stores and online markets trying to find some snow boots. Where I’m at it doesn’t get super cold very often so I don’t think I need heavy insulation. I just need traction in snow and on ice. What brands should I keep my eye open for, to get a boot that will last me a few seasons?
Looking to find a reliable escooter with a removable battery that is concious of secutity. My last scooter a max g2 got stolen need something reliable at least 18 mph and can go like 20 mile range, good in cold, snow and rain.
I’m looking for some boots that are available in the UK, with a similar aesthetic to the standard 6” Timbaland leather ankle boot, but not rubbish. Suitable for wide toes would be a massive bonus, as would available to try on in a shop outside of London.
After stumbling across a blog post about how big brand kitchen products and appliances are mostly just hollow shells with little to no integrity, I found that same blogger/journalist has a robust list of brands that haven’t gone the way of capital sell-outs that goes way beyond kitchen utensils.
I recently picked up Crafted With Pride. It is basically a directory for brands who actually manufacture stuff in America (with a section for Canada, too). There are many many tiny brands making great stuff that you’ll never hear about because they dont advertise. It’s not “BIFL” necessarily as much as it’s “buy local”, but obviously there’s a lot of overlap in those sentiments. A lot of them are literally 1 man shops.
I admit I do not have much knowledge on this front, so I would like to ask knowledge here from others for best options to reduce. While I know there is no perfect solution truly, what could be a good resource for reducing?
Looking to replace and iPhone 11
Needs to be repairable
Able to text people with WhatsApp or other third party apps
Able to play music with a local mp3 player
Headphone jack
mainly used for carrying around a pencil case, water, folders, laptop and odd bits. While I understand durability comes at a cost, I have a budget of £50. Thanks and I look foward to responding to your suggestions
What’s more, it was an extra long cycle because my washing machine is dying and it got stuck with an error, so they spent several hours soaking, case and all.
Back in 2008 I bought an Overboard waterproof backpack. That thing took a beating for almost 15 years before the straps started giving up. It’s been through months-long trips and Canadian winters and saw near-daily use for the entire time. One thing that I loved is that I could take it on a plane, and it just fit as a carry-on, and it could comfortably squeeze underneath the seats on a plane. At the time, I heartily recommended it to everyone.
Was wondering whether I should look for another body (maybe metal ) for Parker g2. I have the standard versions and very much like the ink, but I’m unsure whether the body is durable. Also I feel like I would be more inclined to buy refills for a pen if it had a nicer body.
I need a new reading tablet. I’m not entirely sure but I heard people talking about how a lot of new tablets are becoming difficult to put pirated books onto.
This may not qualify as “buy it for life” strictly speaking, but I was able to fetch docs, drivers and firmware from the trendnet website for a wi-fi USB stick made in 2005. Their website is also openly accessible with no Tor blocks or shitty shenanigans like forcing you to give them info. I could simply download what I needed without digging around archive.org. I’m somewhat amazed by this.
So I’m sick of supporting fast fashion and could really use some new clothes, especially jeans. I was inspired by the work wear post earlier however I think all the recommendations were US based which aren’t that useful for me in the UK. Any suggestions for brands or shops where I can get something which will last? I don’t mind paying significantly more for good quality if it’s actually good and not just a brand logo.
I have a large kitchen aid stand mixer, and I love it… But sometimes i want a small mixer where i do not have to lift the 500 pound beast onto the counter.
Pros:
Still does everything I want it to.
Has great battery life still.
Pretty accurate for a wrist measure, when measuring heart rate.
Also has built in GPS, and even Garmin Pay although I never got it to work.
Screen is perfectly visible in sunlight
Anyone that can recommend a high quality repairable automatic soap dispensor I can use in the kitchen for dishsoap. It should be automatic such that when i put the brush or sponge under it, it gives a small dose of soap.
Until recently I had an old projector inherented from a university to use for movie nights, but after a rather expensive bulb change the picture started flickering and it is now pretty much unusabe. So I am looking for a new one.
A recent post by xcel reminded me that I need a mechanical pencil. Ideally the same size as a normal pencil and ideally ~15 USD (200 ZAR) since anything above that price has a habit disapearing from my desk.
I make buy-for-life, plastic-free, and customisable accessories with free delivery and repairs. I try to keep versatility in mind; nothing has a tag, a seam, or a pre-fold so you can wear them as you like!
It may look like a beat-up old pair of hiking boots, but in fact it’s a pair of beat-up old hiking boots with new soles, lining, heel-counters, shanks, hardware, laces and one hell of a cleaning and reconditioning job.
Over the last few years I’ve gone through a couple Logitech MX Verticals. My current one does technically work, but just like the last one the cheap rubber coating has started disintegrating and is pretty nasty at this point.
Looking to get a coat as my last one has stuffing coming out the sides, but its lasted for a solid 10 years. Looking to get a coat that has multiple layers and an outer shell to use for various weather in winter biking for commuting. Looking to wait towards end of season to try to find some end of season sales, but want to know brands that are durable and have some warmth, my old coat is down since I sometimes bike or walk around in -20 degree with wind chill. Something water proof and wind resistent would be great for outer layer as my current coat is really only good for warmth only and end up acting more like a sponge in sleet or if I wear it on a day that it rains suddenly.
I am looking to get a budget exercise bike for my wife and I to use. Neither of us are super active but want something basic and simple that we can use for 30 minutes or so a few times a week to keep us in shape. We have a new baby so need something at our house that is fast and simple. Doing some research I was thinking about getting this YOSUDA exercise bike with Magnetic resistance bike
I’m less interested in Unicomp/IBM’s novel buckling spring technology (as cool as it is) and more that they’re built well, are corded and not wireless, offer replacement parts on their website, and have a mail-in repair service.
I have weird flipper feet, so I find myself limited to brands that offer 4E width (typically 10.5 @ EEEE ) does anyone have any recommendations? Any style goes as long as they offer closed toes
After spending 200$ for a supposedly premium Philips blender which broke in less than one year after having been sent to assistance, having parts replaced and broken again, been repaired by me and after I spent thousands of swear and curses, I am really this ' ' close to smashing it with an hammer and crucifying it to scare the other Philips products away from my kitchen.
can anyone point me towards a pair of dark denim, like a black to gray sitch preferably, that will last me over a year, thank you anon in advance, it’s always the thighs for me, but i wear them for work so they get a lot of use
Hello, I am looking for a quality and durable headphone with high audio quality on a budget around $200, I want it to last long and be comfortable when I wear it for hours, I primarily listen to music and audio-books and do some casual gaming like story games and Minecraft, I don’t usually carry headphones around but portability would be nice, preferably it’s not from a niche brand since the availability of brands is low in my country does anyone have any recommendations?
i got two from shokz, but both degraded after a few years - first they offered recycling them, but they stopped doing that even. it would be nice to have one that could be used for longer
I’ve got myself a pair of Solovair chelsea boots about a year ago and the soles are already pretty worn out. Water gets through the sole so I probably have to resole them if possible.
I’m not really sure where to post this, but wanted to share that screwing a 1/4-20 bolt into the bottom hole of my otherwise-sealed Philips Sonicare 4100 and just pulling on it successfully opens the toothbrush. An M6 screw might work too; M5 is slightly too small. Philips says to use a hammer to open it, which is absurd. The battery is still soldered, but in my case that wasn’t what I needed to repair anyway.
Hi! This is my first post here, so | wanted to spread awareness about two bartering apps I found. One is called Zéya (I got this from an Instagram ad) and BUNZ (I found this app through looking through search engines). Both of their purposes is to be anti-marketplace apps from how they describe themselves. Where you trade one item in exchange for another. No cash is involved whatsoever.
Yeah, not exactly BIFL but I am looking for a 50+ inch plasma tv for semi-retro gaming. I have some consoles that I want to hook up and I don’t want to deal with smart bullshit. Does anyone have a recommendation? I remember Pioneer being really nice back in the early 00s but I never knew anyone who had one long term.
Any idea about a hose-style shower head? I got one at Home Despot last year, worked fine, until a couple nights ago the thread fitting to the water pipe broke and it got water all over the place. The fitting turns out to be made of plastic that is shiny plated to look like metal!
I’ve had a Braun Series 5 model 8975 electric shaver for 16 years now and this thing has outlasted basically every other consumer electronic I’ve ever purchased. It just works. Battery still holds a charge. It’s great.
Sadly, Braun seems to have stopped making series 5 replacement foils and the non-OEM ones I’ve tried are absolute junk. I hate to give up old reliable when it still works, but sadly I think it’s time look for something new.
Before they stopped making replacement foils, I would have purchased another Braun in a heartbeat when this one finally gave up the ghost, but now I’m on the fence.
Does anyone have recommendations for a BIFL shaver?
I’m looking to buy some cat toys that will last. I’m looking on Amazon – though I would love to avoid Amazon – and everything is terrible quality. Even if I sort by rating, everything still seems like junk.
To any of you living in Europe - could I get some suggestions on good quality men’s clothes shops? I know thrifting is usually a good option but the thrift shops around me aren’t great unfortunately
I replaced the pads on my AKG Q701 headphones today for the 4th time. It made me realize that I've used these headphones for at least 40 hours a week for 14 years straight. I've had to repair the left side speaker solder joint a few times, but they're designed to be easily torn down and repaired. Truly BIFL headphones.
I'm a guy with above average thighs who enjoys weightlifting and biking. Consequently, I'm wearing through all my pairs of workout shorts, and the liners are filled with an embarrassing amount of holes.
Nudie Jeans just phased out all its womens' skinny jeans, and now I'm at a loss for finding non-fast fashion brands that actually fit, so I thought I'd check here.
I wanna do a minor kitchen remodel (mostly just shuffling appliances and cabinets) which seemed like a good opportunity to finally upgrade to induction.
I bought this waterproof coat and backpack, seperately, over 10 years ago and wow, they have been exactly what this sub looks for. I've used and abused both.
Brand doesn't matter afaik.
They are simple metal parts so they'll last forever, unlike the plastic ones.
The rubber seals and o-rings are standard parts that can be easily sourced and replaced.
Grease can help seal them, however it also attracts dirt so not ideal.
I'm looking to get a used router on which to install libreCMC, but the list of supported hardware is quite short. I'd prefer to find something locally, and I doubt that I'd be able to find these particular models. However, I do not intend to use WiFi at all, so I wonder, are there any more recent routers that work 100% with libreCMC except for the WiFi? Preferably something with at least 4 Ethernet ports.
Right now I'm looking for either I think some ceramic cookware or stainless steel cookware, and I'm trying to make it a buy once cry once type of purchase, which would I think lean more towards stainless. I would just like a recommendation of how to compare durability/food safety and whatnot that isn't paid for via advertising dollars. Even direct recommendations for a brand I can look into are welcome.
I'm currently eyeing either an iPod classic 5th gen or a Surfans F20, but definitely want input and suggestions on getting a decent portable music player.
Don't buy those crappy plastic bag-clips to hold chip bags, flour bags, etc closed. They're unsatisfying, they wear out and bend, and they just add more plastic pollution to the world.
I hike with my dog about 5 miles every day. I recently started to use poles, which have been great for clearing debris from the trail, and fighting off unwanted attention from unruly dogs on the trail.
Can anyone recommend a non-Swiffer mop product for very light mopping? I live in an apartment and the only places I need it for are my galley kitchen and bathroom, which are linoleum. I've been using Swiffer Wet Jet up until now but they are getting increasinly crappy and this one broke after only a few months, so I'd like a different brand.
I have a 14lb weighted blanket, but it is too heavy. I only use it on my legs or not at all. I live in a hot climate so I want a light blanket, but the two I own are often not quite warm enough on their own, and they feel too light.
We were about to buy a set from tramontina, we were looking at their tri-ply set, but they canceled the order on us and now I don't feel like waiting 2 weeks for more BS. I was looking at all-clad, but they're super pricy, can anyone weigh in and help us find a set?
I've just bought a backpack from Frost River, the "Arrowhead Trail Eco." I know that you can't assume that something is BIFL until you've owned it for a while, but waxed canvas definitely fits that long-lasting category, and this one certainly feels solid at first glance.
IBM Thinkpads have a cult following in part due to not just a good design out of the gate, but the fact that the original designer refused to bend to pressure to change the design every year. The parts are interchangable to large extent between models spanning what, 3—5 years? The guy was under constant pressure; was told to give consumers something fresh by changing up the design. Luckily wisdom prevailed and he disregarded such reckless advice by responding with the mantra: ”*if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!*”
We can’t always find BifL products for everything. So it’s at least interesting to steer clear of the utter garbage known to be the opposite of BifL. I just created this community for that purpose:
