Or Jim Crow laws, the southern strategy, the Tulsa race massacre, the internment camps for Japanese Americans…so much of American history is just ignored in favor of propaganda claiming the US is the best thing ever.
And that’s just the history that happened in the US. Pretty much every country’s history is also US history because the US fucked with it, but they don’t teach you about things like Operation Condor.
In relation to African-Americans, the way US history is taught in schools usually goes something like:
1.) there was slavery, and slavery was kinda bad (but the slaveowners themselves like Jefferson and Washington were good and noble. The people who set up the governance and institutions of this country were in no way impacted by the fact that they owned humans as property, nope).
2.) Civil War ended slavery
3.) Then we have Reconstruction, which affected the former slaves somehow but it’s complicated so we won’t get too deep into it. Don’t worry it won’t be on the test.
4.) Black folks then disappear from the scene for the next 80-90 years. It’s like they just sort of go into hibernation or something. Just out there in the ether. I guess nothing important happens.
5.) Then we have the civil rights movement and MLK Jr. The important takeaway from this is that everything is fine now, we defeated racism (so no need for any further “justice” in the present).
I feel like it should be obvious, but don’t believe the history of your own country that you learned in school is complete and accurate, especially if your country has any history of imperialism or war, it will have at the very least been softened and the darkest days entirely removed.
Make an effort to learn your history so we aren’t doomed to repeat it. There’s no shame in understanding the past, only in willful ignorance
American internet (known as the internet) is censored out of plain sight. Search engines will systematically hide any narrative against the US and promote any pro US website. And they will put suggestions about how oppressive anti-US countries are in the search results “follow up questions” so you can “voluntarily” click them.
Companies are being sued and otherwise pressured by the US government if they don’t toe the Republican lime. The majority of traditional news (print, broadcast, cable) are owned by right wing billionaires. Social media has been consistently found to push extremist right wing rhetoric while downplaying or deleting the opposition.
The information still exists, but the vast majority are fed a wildly skewed picture of existence. There is absolutely censoring happening. For a recent example, CBS wouldn’t air the late show interview with James Telarico because of threats from the FCC.
Indeed, A great example is TikTok which recently got taken over by the Ellison quite literally because it was not sufficiently censoring the genocide in Palestine enough.
Yes people are able to find information if you look for it hard enough so technically it is not censored. But it is virtually impossible for the layman to come across it.

not where i went to school. we learned all of that
Your history classes were a lot better than mine. I had to work on learning history on my own and I’m sure I still have lots of holes in it.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I was taught.
Every single one of those things was in my history textbooks in California.
Same in WV. We talked a ton about all the bad shit we did.

Mandatory reading. There’s “Death to US” moment every two pages on average. And the author wasn’t even communist but a succdem.
In China they erase any mention of it from the internet, America just doesn’t teach it in schools, they don’t censor the internet (yet)

They don’t allow misinformation on the topic, which is something completely different from what you’re saying. It was a failed color revolution.
Try to type taylor swift 1989 as in the record “T. S. 1989” in any Chinese app and see your social credit nose dive in real time.
