iirc they had like half a metre between the flat door and the actual elevator door. You'd open the door to leave and immediately face the elevator door. Similarly you'd leave the elevator and find yourself right in front of the flat door. I could be wrong though, so take this with a pinch of salt. I haven't been there myself.
