Super excited for this, and I wasn't expecting it at all. I loved CP2077 but season 1 of Edgerunners was even better than I was expecting.

Those of us familiar with studio Trigger were not at all surprised.

They've had some misses, but they make anime with a real passion for the medium.

When Edgerunners was first announced, it was a headscratcher, because it made you go "thefuck, why would Trigger take on licensed slop?". Shoulda known it was because they were being allowed to actually do something with it.

If you want to see more of their work, I recommend the two Star Wars Visions episodes they made, as well as the first season of their Dungeon Meshi adaptation.

Wouldn't mind a direct sequel in the setting and location. But just give me different characters. Cyberpunk has no shortage of ideas or stories. Tell us more, no need to go back to the past

And the ending of the first was kinda perfect for cyberpunk, hit the high then toppled down lower than they ever dreamed. New characters to learn the same lesson but in a fun and entertaining way of course.

No one ever wins but the corporations in cyberpunk. Umm yeah just cyberpunk.

A direct sequel? That's interesting, when they said they're working on another collaboration I thought it would be another original story, considering the story from Edgerunners feels very finished.

Maybe we will follow Kiwi (I really hope not) or Lucy to the Moon.

Lucy being the main character sounds the most plausible but I dont know, she's the only one that had a good ending and I wouldnt want them to alter it.

I would recite a pretentious Rockerboy but I don't have to because you already know how it goes.

But yeah it would be nice for a change.

I hope a completely new set of characters

Well.... Yeah. Obviously it's going to have to be

There could be some crossover somehow.

Writer was pretty clear about David's fate in the article and mentioned wanting to tell more stories with "many interesting characters". Besides, season 2 is described as a standalone story so more than likely.

Not a fan of Studio Trigger and I thought the first season was a tad bit overrated but I did enjoy it for how it adapted the very franchise that opened me up to trying anime in the first place, so I'm interested.

I think that to some extent this comes down to a simple fact that for many people, like yourself, Edgerunners was their first into the world of anime - depending on one's media literacy and experience this might sway their opinion one way or another. Besides, that's not just a problem with Edgerunners, you could say the same about folks for whom Cyberpunk 2077 was their first experience with cyberpunk as a genre.

While not perfect, it's a solid show overall and if it serves as a gateway deeper into the rabbit hole then I'd say it's worth the praise.

Oh no, I don't mean Edgerunners was my entry. I mean that Cyberpunk 2077 led me to further cyberpunk content, which led me to explore cyberpunk anime after a lifetime of being an ignorant anime hater. I can see why it looked like I meant Edgerunners was my entry though!

That said, I don't hate Edgerunners by any means, I just didn't feel the emotional connection people felt to the characters and story. I enjoyed seeing Night City in anime, and I think there was a lot of talent on display but yeah, I just didn't feel much compared to what others seem to have felt.

Really fucking hooe they cook on this. First one was really good but the hard part is gonna be not relying too much on the story from the first one.

They've said that it's a standalone story. I honestly hope there's a bit better pacing and it's a story over 2 seasons perhaps. Would be able to go into more things in depth and more details of characters relationships with one another.

I might be reading too much into this but I think they're going for an anthology feel with the show and if there's ever Cyberpunk Edgerunners 3 it would once again focus on yet another group of characters. That's just how I interpreted Sztybor's words though.

Yeah I'm sure that's what they will do.

But I can still hope for a story told over two seasons.
